The French Manor
The French Manor on Huckleberry Mountain is an enchanting stone chateau that has been modeled on a real French Manor back in the south of France. Built as a holiday home in 1937 on 500 acres of rolling mountainside, with real European craftsmanship on local building materials, the manor changed hands several times to reach Ron and Mary Kay Logan, owners and operators of the nearby Sterling Inn. They have made the property into a beautiful country inn that is a sought after and acclaimed getaway in the mountains maintaining the elegance and flavor of the French.
Life's little tensions catch up with all of us and we yearn for some time-off and a bit of pampering. Oh, for a neat room and comfy bed, and a view of the mountains with white fluffy clouds rolling among the crests and ridges from the tilting chair in the balcony while sipping a glass of sherry. Or just some peace and quiet of reading at the garden seat in the beautifully manicured lawn. You may want a book or two or a magazine that you have been too lazy to bring along. No, this isn't a dream but a description of some of the good things that await you at your suite at the French Manor. They call it the 'Pocono Mountain's Best Kept Secret' and that's not any further from the truth.
You could alternately get into that Jacuzzi, or relax by the fire side in the suite in the cool evenings; the rooms are excellently maintained and spacious, and with unobtrusive service and real French food. A massage on request will add to your menu for relaxation. Meantime you may want to catch up with that baseball game that went on air after you left or watch a movie you have been wanting to see since several weeks. Switch on the cable TV, play a movie on the DVD player or call a friend from the room. There is a private bath attached to the suites and thoughtful stocks of all that you may need in toiletries, as well as a hair dryer, an iron and a robe. In case you want to shut out even the mountains and just be alone, close your window to the world, switch on the air conditioner and get your beauty sleep.
In case you don't want to use their excellent room service, put on your formals and enjoy the pleasures of fine dining at the elegant and classic 4-Diamond restaurant which has a pianist in tune with your musical moods. The cuisine is exquisite and that isn't the least of the dining pleasures either. Choose a table by the window and eat with the mountains in view or dine by the fireplace in cozy warmth. The Gourmet magazine has honored the place as one of the best eating places of Pennsylvania. The Philadelphia Inquirer has commented on the dinner here as 'fit for a king'. There is a bar as well and cocktails can be had on request.
